| Month of Internet 2003 - Arising interest 17.4.2003
This year the campaign was launched under the auspices of the Delegation of European commission in Prague. Tens of thousand people visited different events launched in the frame of the nationwide campaign such as special programs of 275 regional and town libraries focused on possibilities and use of Internet or special conferences and workshops visited by more experienced Internet users and fans. The ISSS conference 2003 (Internet in the state and public administration) organised traditionally in the frame of the campaign March-Month of Internet welcome 1853 attendees from the Czech Republic and 27 CEE countries. According the expressed opinion of representatives of the European Delegation in Prague – the event become important place of regular meetings and exchange of experiences of public administration from different candidate countries as well as other East European and Balkan states. Big interest was caused by the Junior Internet children’s conference in Prague. 216 nominees took part at the event as a result of a competition among young people. For the first time the age of attendees was extended up top 18 years (in the category of Web masters). Two events of the March-Month of Internet were oriented on the European Year of People with Disabilities. The first one was the traditional conference INSPO 2003. It was necessary to stop the registration of interested to attend the event because of limited capacity of the conference room (only 130 seats) in the Congress Centre of Prague. Conference was focused on the Internet as a powerful tool for communication and work of disabled people. There was a kick-off meeting of the regional Cluster of Innovation of the Czech Prelude project organised during the INSPO conference. The second one was the two days conference Web services for healthcare in Prague attended by 150 people. There were also other events organised in the frame of the campaign such as Internet and competitiveness of enterprise, eLearning in modern education and also Internet in schools launched traditionally at the Schola Nova trade show in Prague. Very important was a record set by 3508 children together with 843 adults – participants of the Night with Andersen. The event was organised by the Club of children’s libraries SKIP together with the BMI Association. The night of Friday March 28 was full of fairy tails, readings, Internet chatting, theatre performances and other activities attracting fantasy of participants. It was launched simultaneously in 151 places – libraries, children houses, schools - there were seven libraries in Slovakia and four in Poland among them. The Internet activities of the campaign of March attracted also seniors – for instance among 212 participants of individual lessons of Internet in the regional library of Karlovy Vary were 182 seniors. This year BMI included also a questionnaire about accession of our country to the EC and a role of Internet. People could answer the questions through the Internet or using terminals during conferences and other events. The winner was rewarded by valuable prize – Internet wireless access device
